Dr. Jessica Matthews, DBH, MS, NBC-HWC, E-RYT500 is assistant professor, director and creator of the Master of Kinesiology in Integrative Wellness program at Point Loma Nazarene University. An award-winning and innovative educator, she has developed and implemented graduate degree and professional certificate programs at several colleges in Southern California, in addition to teaching a variety of graduate courses in areas such as integrative health and mind-body medicine.

A national board-certified health and wellness coach (NBC-HWC) with a doctorate in behavioral health with an emphasis in clinical integrated care from Arizona State University, Dr. Matthews serves as director of integrative health coaching in the Centers for Integrative Health at UC San Diego in the Department of Family Medicine and Public Health. She also serves as lead faculty member in the area of health behavior change for the American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM) Lifestyle Medicine Residency Curriculum in addition to serving as chair of the ACLM Health and Wellness Coaches member interest group.

A sought after and trusted resource for evidence-based, whole person health and wellness information, for over a decade Dr. Matthews has regularly contributed to numerous publications and media outlets, including, but not limited to, CNN, The Washington Post, Women’s Health, The New York Times, NPR, and Doctor Radio. She has also served as a valued consultant and senior advisor for a number of leading health and wellness organizations, including the American Council on Exercise (ACE). For her contributions to the field of health and wellness as a seasoned mindful movement educator and integrative wellness thought leader, Dr. Matthews was honored as the 2017 IDEA Fitness Instructor of the Year, a top award recognizing superior instructional abilities and positive influence within one’s local community and the global health and fitness industry. She was also named by Canisius College to the inaugural Griffs Under 40, a list of notable alumni under the age of 40 who are recognized innovators in their respective fields.

A captivating international speaker with a compelling personal story and diverse professional experience and expertise, Dr. Matthews delivers keynote speeches, lectures, workshops and trainings at conferences, events and organizations worldwide. As an accomplished author and content developer, she has written articles, books and created online courses for the general public and health and wellness professionals, to include serving as lead author and editor of The Professional’s Guide to Health and Wellness Coaching: Empower Transformation Through Lifestyle Behavior Change.

Dr. Matthews’ primary areas of research interest include health and wellness coaching, mindfulness practices, positive psychology interventions, culinary medicine and the use of a whole food, plant-based diet in the treatment of various chronic diseases and conditions.
